HEALTH AND SAFETY

IMMUNIZATIONS

The state law requires a physician’s report of good health upon entrance and immunization for Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Measles, Hepatitis B, Chickenpox, and a TB check. All children must be immunized.

MEDICATION

No medication of any kind (including aspirin) will be administered to a student without the parent’s written instructions. Only medication prescribed by a physician, with the child’s name imprinted, will be given. If over the counter medication is needed, please have your child’s doctor write a note. When you bring in medication, hand the medicine directly to a teacher. You will be asked to fill out a form so we can administer according to your instructions.

We are not permitted to apply anything to your child without your written permission. This includes sunscreen, antibiotic ointment, or diaper cream. Please fill out a release form if these are needed.

ILLNESS

It is in the best interests of your child and of the others at Beginnings & Beyond to keep your child home when he is ill. Sore
throats, rashes, and children with heavy nasal discharge or a
constant cough may not attend school. Please call 676-6244 before 8:00 a.m. Children need to be well to be able to actively participate in our program.

When is it appropriate to return?

24 hours after a fever, or after the last dose of a fever reducer.
When the child can control cold symptoms
24 hours after a rash disappears, vomiting or unusual diarrhea stops.
When your child can participate fully in the program provided, including snack, indoor activities, outdoor activities, and nap.
If your child becomes ill while at school and you are called, please cooperate by picking up your child within 30 minutes. We will not call unless your child needs to be at home.

Please inform your child’s teacher of any allergies that he may have.

ILLNESS OR INJURY AT SCHOOL

In the event of a serious illness or injury, you will be called immediately. The signed registration form gives us permission to seek medical treatment for your child if you and/or the persons you have designated are unavailable.

You will be informed either verbally or with a written note about minor injuries which need first aid attention.

CHILD ABUSE

Staff members are mandatory reporters of any suspected child abuse (either physical or emotional). If your child is injured outside of school, please talk with your child’s teacher. The Child Abuse Reporting Law, Article 2.5, §11166
