ABOUT MONTESSORI

Maria Montessori 1870 – 1952

In the early 1900’s Dr. Maria Montessori observed how children are constantly absorbing information from their environment as their minds develop. Through continual observation and study, she created a learning environment to nurture this in young children. The result was a revolutionary new way of teaching children where the focus is on the individual child.

Today, schools across the country continue the legacy of Dr. Montessori for children of all ages. The environment she developed is an open classroom where each child learns at their own pace in mixed age groups. Children learn to love all they do and become responsible students. The environment also helps to develop empathy, concentration and cooperation.

The goal is for the children to see learning as a joyful experience which they continue beyond these early years.
